Shakira, LMFAO, Red One and Akon, OH MY!!!

Shakira has stirred up some rumor stew by posting this pic (above) of herself, rapper Red Foo of LMFAO fame, Akon and Red One (a Lady Gaga regular) in her Barcelona recording studio while recording her 8th album.

The girl with the hypnotizing midriff tweeted today:

"Hanging out with Red Foo (LMFAO), Akon and Red One in my studio in Barcelona… didn't take us long before we started dancing!"

Well, they sure look like they are having fun and if they were all to collaborate it would be a pile-driver of a pop song!!

Imagine: Hips Don’t Lie meets Sexy and I Know It meets Sexy Bi*** meets JUST DANCE remix.

Oh wait…our brains just exploded from the sheer power of the base beat.

Shakira has already talked of teaming up with Brit Brit for a track on her new album. She's all about the collaborations this time around!

Do U want the Akon/Red One/LMFAO/Shakira collaboration to happen???

Celebrities have a social responsibility: Shakira

Shakira asserted that celebrities have a philanthropic moral duty at the 80th anniversary of the BBC World Service this Wednesday, reported local media.

"I think that artists have responsibilities, all public figures who appear before the cameras must use their position to improve the world. Everyone has a role in society and an opportunity to correct what we think is wrong," said the Colombian pop star.

The singer, who has sold over 70 million albums worldwide, is an avid activist whose Barefoot Foundation focuses on early development and providing education to children in Colombia and developing countries.

She explained the motivation for her work saying, "I grew up in a developing country and saw a lot of social injustice and inequality, I felt like I might be able to do something. As soon as I had the opportunity and some success, I returned to my country at 18 years old and established my foundation to create opportunities for children without access to quality education."

The topic of the round-table discussion was the future of international media. Important figures from major media outlets such as Al Jazeera, CNN International, and the BBC World Service participated in the debate.

When the former director of Arabic news service Al Jazeera commented that his organization focuses on news, not celebrities, Shakira responded by saying, "If the message [of the celebrity] is correct and serious and made with good intention, it can affect millions of lives and shape new generations."

The head of BBC World Service backed Shakira up saying that "not everyone is interested in international affairs and celebrities can attract audiences [as in the case of the coverage of the Oscars] with different approaches depending on the audience."

Shakira went on to say that "I use twitter and facebook, I have 50 million followers, that is why it is important for celebrities to use their voices to speak for the voiceless, we cannot neglect our role in the world, in the media and politics [...] we have a responsibility to improve the world."

Shakira in a soccer frame of mind

Colombian superstar Shakira got to hang with her novio and do a good deed on Monday at the BankUnited Center.
The singer and soccer star Gerard Pique unveiled a plan to create the Soccer for Youth Development and Healthy Living project to benefit more than 28,000 local kids.
It’s a joint project of her nonprofit, Pies Descalzos (Barefoot), and the charitable arm of the FC Barcelona soccer club. The goal is to convert the YMCA at 6881 NW 179th St. into a sports facility.
The glamour couple did not take questions, but the Hips Don’t Lie singer did tell reporters: “For 13 years I’ve seen that education is the most efficient tool for changing a child’s future and that of his or her family as well.’’
Last summer, Shakira announced she was splitting with her lawyer boyfriend of 10 years Antonio de la Rua, who is the oldest son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua. Soon after, she was spotted with Spanish footballer Pique, 24, and confirmed their relationship in March, calling the FC player her “sunshine’’ on Twitter.

CRIME CENTRAL
Some say there’s definitely something shady about the police officer shooting at 12th and Collins on South Beach, so imagine how you’d feel if you lived in that neighborhood? We’d love to ask Sir Richard Branson, because he does. We discovered that, contrary to images of a grandiose beach pad, the bazillionaire actually owns the penthouse at The Islander, located at 1255 Collins Ave. Registered under his wife Joan’s name, the apartment was bought in 2009 for a bargain (for Branson, anyway) $399k.
The building is far from a place you’d expect a mogul to call home, with a nonfunctioning pool on the rooftop among other amenities. When he bought the place, Branson told a fellow resident that he dislikes buildings with doormen, valet parking, concierges, etc., and that he doesn’t want people to know his comings-and-goings. Oops.
And get this: Branson’s not the first rich guy to live there. Rumor has it that hotelier Ian Schrager was the penthouse’s previous owner.

Shakira Partners With FC Barcelona to Benefit Miami Kids

Pop star appears alongside her soccer star boyfriend to announce a partnership with FC Barcelona and the Miami YMCA

Colombian superstar Shakira appeared at the University of Miami Monday afternoon to announce a partnership between her charitable foundation and that of soccer superpower FC Barcelona, who play an exhibition match in Miami on Wednesday.

Along with officials from the Spanish side, three Barcelona players appeared to promote the project -- including the other half of Shakira's much-buzzed-about relationship, center back Gerard Piqué.

Though the celebrity couple drew cheers inside and outside UM's fieldhouse, it was a major investment in YMCA educational programs for the local Hispanic community that brought the pair in front of cameras.

“Hispanics in the United States have everything to gain," Shakira told the crowd before receiving a Barcelona jersey with the name of her foundation on the back.

"We have the talent, we have the will," she said. "I truly think that with more education and more sports, we can achieve the unthinkable. We can have the ball on our side of the court and play the best of moves.”

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Commissioner Steve Bovo, FC Barcelona Foundation vice-president Ramon Pont and YMCA of Greater Miami Board Chairman Brian Mormille were all on hand to promote the coming program that will benefit local youth, though details were not entirely revealed.

FC Barcelona play Mexica club Chivas de Guadalajara at Sun Life Stadium on Wednesday, with more than 60,000 tickets already sold.

Shakira and Piqué are reported to have met at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where she performed the theme song "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)", and he won the whole shebang as a member of the Spanish national team.

Haute 100 Update: Shakira Promotes Peace through Education at Israeli Presidential Conference

Colombian superstar and Haute 100 Miami member Shakira was a guest at Israeli president Shimon Peres’s Israeli Presidential Conference on Tuesday, July 19 in Jerusalem. The pop star, who is partly Lebanese, had performed last month in Beirut and was urged by fans to stay away from Jerusalem and take part in a pro-Palestinian boycott. Shakira, obviously, would have no part.

In fact, the 34-year-old singer was there to promote peace, not perform. Shakira, who is also a UNICEF ambassador, was eloquent and passionate as she discussed her reasons for being there, “I’m here for the Israeli kids and the Palestinian kids and kids in every region of the world where there is not enough quality education.” In global terms, she also presented education and investment in early child development as being “the best antidote to violence.”

Earlier in the day, Shakira and her boyfriend, Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué, visited the Hand in Hand Max Rayne Bilingual School in Jersusalem, a school where the education knows no boundaries. Israeli and Palestinian children, Jews, Muslims, and Christians study together in both Hebrew and Arabic.

In a piece Shakira wrote for the Huffington Post, “Education for Peace”, the singer mused of her visit there, “The afternoon of the conference, I visited the Max Rayne Jerusalem School, an inspirational place where half of the student population is Israeli and half Palestinian. Students learn together, across all divides, speaking both Arabic and Hebrew, learning and playing together without difference.”

She added, “There is no other investment that has the kind of social multiplier effect that early education has. It is an incredible thing to nurture and watch grow and spread. Seeing the students flourish at Max Rayne School – as with visiting the children in my schools in Colombia who are now on their way to college instead of guerilla armies – only reaffirms my conviction that education is the very substance of peace. ”

Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets.
